German Chocolate Cake Waffles

German Chocolate Cake Waffles
Get your waffle maker and passport, bakers. We’re going to Germany.
Jk, German chocolate cake is actually an American creation. But we think it’s the perfect incentive to make chocolate-y waffles while we brush up on our German with the family (Ich liebe Waffeln! = I love waffles!)
Add some good cocoa powder and sweetened shredded coconut to your batter for that iconic flavor combo. Don’t worry about smoothing batter out over your waffle maker—it’ll expand as it cooks.
Plate your waffle and top it with your favorite ice cream. May we suggest a scoop of our classic Cereal Milk, Birthday Cake, or Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Crush ice cream… or two. Yeah, two sounds good.
Guten Appetit!

STEP 1
Turn on the waffle maker and set it to medium heat.
STEP 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
STEP 3
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and oil. Pour this milk mixture into the flour mixture and whisk until the pancake batter is mostly smooth. Stir in the coconut.
STEP 4
Pour ½ cup of the batter—or the amount your waffle maker suggests—into the middle of the waffle maker, smoothing it slightly. Close and cook for about 2 minutes, or until cooked through. Lift out the waffle using the spatula, place it on a plate, and serve right away with a heaping scoop of ice cream. Make the remaining 2 waffles the same way
