Bake Club Dying for It: Eggz & all

If eggs are on your mind, I recommend soft or hard boiling them first! Place eggs in a medium, heavy bottom pot. Add enough cold water to cover eggs by 1 inch. Cover and bring to a boil on high heat. Remove the pot from heat and let stand 6-12 minutes, depending on your preference (i.e. how you plan to eat them later). Pour off hot water and run eggs under cold water until completely cooled.


For every color you want to create, mix 1/2 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and 10 to 20 drops food color in a glass drinking glass or bowl.

Repeat (using new, mixing or toning up/down intensity) for each color. 


Dip eggs (or anything else you want a little life infused into) in dye for about 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon, wire egg holder or tongs to add and remove from dye. Allow eggs/item to dry completely.


There are SO many ways to get down here.

In egg town, if you want to create some killer negative space, draw on the eggshells with crayon (white, clear or any color) before dipping in dye— what you draw will be the only thing undyed. To create positive space, use a sharpie once egg is died and dried. Get down with ombré by leaving part of the egg submerged for less time, and the other part submerged for more time. More than anything, get creative! Try different techniques, make a little mess, have a blast. And never underestimate the power of egg salad, deviled eggs, or a little everything seed bagel seasoning and a pinch of salt on an egg once you’re done celebrating life in color!!
